Blake's (first) 1st Birthday Celebration

In a way we went from having no birthday plans to having two parties. I will say, I wasn't extremely eager to throw him a birthday party, 1) because, being only 1, Blake has no idea it is his birthday anyway, and 2) because Blake is allergic to dairy and soy and it is kinda hard to make a birthday cake he can eat. But we decided to plan a small party on his birthday anyway. As the date approached, however, Blake still had a fever and seemed to be showing symptoms of RSV, so we rescheduled his birthday party for the following week so that we wouldn't get the other kids sick. But Grandma and Granpop came by to celebrate on his birthday anyway. So these are pics from his first 1st birthday celebration!

Here is Blake still loving his car, taking a walk with Grandmom and Grandpop down the driveway.

Usually when we reach out our arms to pick him up, Blake responds very happily and meets our outstretched arms. But when we say "hold you?" and reach out to Blake, intending to pick him up out of his car he just sits there as if you say, "no thanks Mom and Dad, I'll stay here."

And here we are singing Happy Birthday with a piece of brownie. (I don't think the candle was a great idea.) He has no idea what is going on, of course.

But Blake loved the brownie. To date, the sweetest thing he has tasted has been a grape. (Oh yeah, and a little bit of ice cream you saw in an earlier post.) He surprised us all by offering some of his beloved brownie to PopPop! Here he is putting a piece of brownie in PopPop's mouth.

Oh, my, a little bit of sugar went a long way! Blake turned completely giddy, and he and Grandpop had a great time playing with, er, well, none other than a piece of wrapping paper!

Overall, I think Blake had a very happy birthday! More celebrating to come!
